Psychotherapy Amsterdam

Space to reflect on what you feel and need

You can function perfectly well in daily life while simultaneously noticing that something keeps bothering you. Perhaps you overthink things, or regularly feel tense or dissatisfied. Or you may find that relationships offer you little satisfaction, even though there is nothing immediately unpleasant going on.

In my practice for psychotherapy in Amsterdam There is room not only to look at what goes wrong, but especially to investigate what lies behind recurring feelings and patterns.

Psychotherapy can help you understand yourself better and deal more consciously with what you feel, need, and experience in contact with others.

What can you work on in psychotherapy?

The reasons for seeking psychotherapy vary from person to person. For example, you might notice that:

  • Feelings are difficult to place or express;
  • Anxiety, gloom, or insecurity hinders you;
  • You think a lot without truly relaxing;
  • Relationships getting stuck in a similar way every time;
  • You have difficulty letting others get close;
  • You look at yourself harshly or critically;
  • Past experiences continue to have an impact;
  • You long for more satisfaction or meaning.

Sometimes there is one clear trigger. It can also involve a feeling that you haven't been making progress for quite some time and want to understand what plays a role in that.

Psychodynamic and experiential work

A basic principle is that insight is important, but that understanding alone offers little in the way of change.

Therefore, during the conversations, we explore both your thoughts and your experiences. We can reflect on events in your life, important relationships, and ways in which you have learned to cope with difficult feelings or situations.

The way you experience the contact during therapy can also help to make patterns more visible. As a result, psychotherapy can not only provide new insights but also offer an opportunity to experience new ways of interacting with yourself and others.

Is this form of psychotherapy right for you?

Therapy does not begin solely with the question of what symptoms you have. It is also important whether you feel comfortable with the therapist's way of working and whether sufficient trust develops to explore together what is going on.

Therefore, I offer a free and no-obligation orientation session for individual psychotherapy. During this session, you can share what is on your mind, get to know me, and ask questions about the treatment.

The consultation can take place at the practice in Amsterdam or via video call.
