About me

As a child, I mainly wanted to be 'normal,' while I often felt different. I didn't really know what that 'being normal' actually meant. I also didn't yet fully understand who I was and what was going on inside me.

Over the course of my life, I have become more familiar with the feelings and experiences that are part of life, such as pain and joy, closeness and letting go. That does not mean that it is always easy to allow these feelings. I have, as it were, tasked myself with making room for them, especially during difficult moments. This helps me to look at myself and others with more openness, without judging too quickly.

Connection with other people is important to me. Doing things together, having fun, and accomplishing something gives me satisfaction. It is important that everyone can remain themselves, without forcing themselves or others. This also includes the freedom to make your own choices and to go your own way.

People who know me describe me as empathetic, with a sense of humor, and at the same time goal-oriented. I recognize that combination in my work as a therapist as well. I find it important to give space to what someone is experiencing, but also to explore together what can help them move forward.

After completing a four-year training program in integrative psychotherapy in Amsterdam, I started my own practice in 2012. In addition to my work, I volunteer, enjoy making music together with others (playing the piano), and practice Zen meditation.

Vision

The adage "through contact with others, you learn to change yourself" calls for psychotherapy. Good interpersonal contact leads to change and a reduction in complaints.

My style is open-minded and experience-oriented. I believe it's important that we can look at ourselves and our relationships in diverse ways. This paves the way for gaining new experiences and, in turn, gaining the choice to change.

I believe it's important for clients to have freedom of choice regarding the type of therapy and therapist. This helps foster a supportive partnership. Hence the orientation meetings. Simply having an orientation meeting is a step in the right direction.

Do you have a question or complaint about me as a therapist?
First, discuss your question or complaint with your therapist. They may not be aware of your dissatisfaction. In most cases, a conversation is sufficient, and you can resolve the matter together. If that doesn't work, or you're unable to discuss your complaint, you can file a complaint with the complaints committee of the professional association with which your therapist is affiliated. See also the complaints brochure of the Foundation for Complementary and Alternative Healthcare.
